Congratulations! You are about to join an awesome non-profit community — which happens to run a world-class hackerspace! This isn't like a gym membership where there is a corporation vs. customers — members are the backbone of Hacker Dojo and without you there would not be an us. Seriously, a bunch of us just got together in 2009 to lease a warehouse, and we've been growing ever since.
Member privileges include the ability to vote on policy at our monthly meeting, 24/7 access to the space (you get a key!), monthly member dinner, premium WiFi access, access to the invisible jet, free access to attorney office hours, access to our growing Mobile Device Lab, ability to host events, permission to sit on any event or class for free.
Membership is currently $100/month. You can cancel at any time.

Dues are scheduled to increase to $125/month on 2014-05-01.
Once You've Signed Up
Once Spreedly has sent you a confirmation, you are automatically a member. Please chant "One of us, one of us, ..." ;) You can get a key immediately upon signing up, so come by when the Dojo is unlocked and grab one so you can come in anytime. They're located in a glass fishbowl in the lobby. Please read the policies page on our wiki -- these are the rules that all members & guests must follow.
Once You Become a Member
You should first sign into your Hacker Dojo e-mail through Gmail. It is important to check your mail often (especially for event hosts), or at least set it up to forward to an address that you check regularly. If you are having trouble accessing your account, email firstname.lastname@example.org
Other Membership Types
Reduced Student Rate
We at the Hacker Dojo understand that students may wish to join the Dojo but may currently lack the means to do so. For full-time students for whom the full membership fee is a hardship, we offer a reduced rate, reviewed on a case-by-base basis. If you need financial assistance when joining the Dojo, please apply for our student rate. The regular membership is $100/mo. We're a non-profit (and a startup, like most of our members!) Without our members supporting us, we would cease to exist. We'd love to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship as much as we can, but the student rate is not for startups. Application processing time takes 1-2 weeks.
Some members prefer to pay $1,200 up front for one year of membership. There isn't a discount, but you'll feel twelve times as good signing up for the yearly plan!
Five Year Plan
Want to pay for your Hacker Dojo membership five (5) years in advance, a $1,000 discount, and get your name on a plaque? Then sign up for the five year plan for an upfront cost of $5,000 by emailing email@example.com. Please note that this plan is non-refundable. To make sure your name gets on the plaque, please do ping firstname.lastname@example.org after you've signed up.
Managing Your Membership
How do I change my credit card information?
If you need to change the credit card used to pay for your membership, simply follow the link at the end of your monthly email billing notice.
How do I reactivate an expired/cancelled/old membership?
Perhaps you have moved out of the area, went on extended vacation, or otherwise did something that would have made paying for your Hacker Dojo membership financially burdensome. To get your membership reactivated, simply write to email@example.com and you will be sent a link to do so. Please be sure to include your name so we can easily look you up. Trying to sign up again will only result in an error message. So please do not try and sign up via the link at the top of the page.
I signed up but now I have a problem logging in. What now?
If you’re having signin issues after purchasing a membership, write to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please note that password resets do need to be done manually, so sometimes there is not immediate turn around time. We ask for your patience, and do our best to not keep you waiting for more than 24 hours. Also, if this is going to be your first time juggling multiple gmail accounts, please read this tutorial.
How do I cancel my membership?
Don’t do that! Seriously though, we’re sad to see you go, but we understand that life happens and sometimes it no longer makes sense to be a Dojo member. You are of course always welcome to come in and use the Dojo during our public hours (8am - 10pm.) To cancel your membership, find the link at the bottom of your monthly email billing notice (it gets sent to whatever address you provided at signup- not your Dojo account.) Click that, and you’ll be given the option to cancel your membership. (Note: If you have been a member for a month or less, you will not have received one of these. If that is the case, please email treasurer@. Everyone else, please do try and find it; not only does it make our workload easier, there's a better chance that it will cancel when you want it- aka, before it auto-renews!)
I want you to cancel my membership on this date/ next month!/ Please make sure my membership doesn't renew/ etc.
Treasurer@ cannot handle these requests. It is your responsibility to keep track of your renewal date and e-mail us within a few days of it. Alternatively, as mentioned above, find the monthly email billing notice and the link in that, and cancel that way. If you write in asking us to cancel your membership, it will be cancelled when the treasurer receives the email.
I'm going on a trip for a few months/ I need to save my pennies, but I want to reactivate my membership. Can you suspend it?
Unfortunately Hacker Dojo does not have the means to just "suspend" your membership. What we can do is cancel it to keep from auto-renewing (though preferably you do this yourself) and when you're back and ready to re-join, just email treasurer@. From there, we'll send you a link to reactivate your account.
Can I get a refund?
It is the policy of Hacker Dojo not to offer refunds. The one exception is if you write in to cancel your membership and your credit card is automatically billed before we have time to process your request. We thank you for your understanding.
I signed up! Now, where do I get that key?
Keys are located in the front lobby area, and you can find them on the counter in a glass fishbowl. You just need one, and either a card or key chain piece works fine. It won't work right away, as you will need to activate it first. Once it's been activated, you can use it to unlock the door during members only hours (10pm- 8am) and to sign in each time you come in. More information about keys can be found on the wiki page.
